Job Description:
Technical Buyer (full-time)
Location: This position is based at our facilities in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.
Position Overview and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing engineered components to support company projects and development. Purchasing scope includes new designs, prototypes, complex fabrications and newly fabricated assets.
- Ensure procurement processes align with company objectives for cost efficiency, quality, and timely delivery.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and reliable supply chains.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, and operations, to anticipate and fulfill new equipment needs.
- Monitor market trends, supplier performance, and new product developments to optimize procurement strategies.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying cost-saving opportunities and process efficiencies.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, industry standards, and relevant safety and regulatory requirements.
This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer with a dotted line to the Engineering Manager.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
- 3-7 years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or a related field.
- Experience in sourcing materials for heavy equipment, fabricated steel structures, and mechanical components is an asset.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or equivalent certification is an asset.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License or equivalent.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Knowledge of inventory management principles and ERP/MRP systems.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, and assembly is beneficial.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications for procurement purposes.
- Strong analytical skills to assess cost, quality, and supplier reliability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and procurement software.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
